Job Title: Manufacturing Engineer II
Reports to: Engineering Manager
Location: New Ulm, MN

Position / Purpose:
Provide engineering direction for production activities, including interpretation of customer prints, development of documented procedures and necessary tooling for a wide variety of products. Initiate and conduct engineering activities to enhance company efforts to improve safety, reduce cost, and improve quality.

Job Duties
Initiate and implement activities to maintain and improve safety in the workplace.
Process customers orders for a wide variety parts including interpreting prints to develop procedures, determination of tooling needs, and estimation of task times.
As required, perform simple reverse engineering of previously created customer designs.
Initiate and implement activities to reduce material costs and improve process efficiencies to positively impact business results. Seek opportunities to improve material flow and layout.
Initiate and implement activities to improve process understanding and quality improvement, using advanced concepts, practices, and engineering methodologies. May lead team efforts to brainstorm, analyze, and implement solutions.
Interact regularly with vendors to support production and ensure compliance with customer requirements. Provide direction and support for transition of production to low cost vendors.
Develop an in-depth understanding of key production processes and materials. Investigate and implement as appropriate, potential material substitutions and improvements.
Apply an advanced level of motor testing and knowledge of motor theory. Execute motor test requirements as they are recognized.
Recognize and address advanced mechanical fit/tolerance/GD&T applications. Read, interpret and understand advanced CMM data.
Develop a self-development plan in order to make reasonable progress towards becoming qualified for the Manufacturing Engineer III position.
May include some direct supervision of other technical personnel.

Qualifications

Education:
A 4-year degree in an engineering or related technical field is required.
Experience: A minimum of two years of industrial experience in a manufacturing, mechanical, or electrical/electronic engineering role is required. Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals and perform the functions of the job. Works under general supervision.

Skills: Computer knowledge, including the use of Microsoft Office or similar software. Understanding of common engineering practices, including statistical methodologies. Ability to communicate and work effectively with individuals and teams, including a leadership role at times, at all levels of the organization is essential. Some knowledge of electrical test equipment and measuring tools is required.
